Update: Himalaya Herbal has changed the name of their “Organique” line to “Botanique”. Same products! New name.
I am SO excited about this!! A while back, I found Organique by Himalaya Herbal. They batch test for gluten and every batch that passes the test has a sticker plunked on the front. “GLUTEN FREE” it boldly states on the bright green circle. They do not use ingredients that naturally contain gluten, but are testing to make sure that there have been no slip-ups in the process anywhere along the way.
Now, that’s awesome enough to start with, but not only is Organique safely gluten free, they are also utterly dedicated to perfectly natural body care. No parabens, no petroleum, no synthetic fragrances, no animal testing and the list goes on! This Earth conscious, health savvy, Gluten Free Gal’s little heart went pit-a-pat. (I seriously considered putting an excited *squeal!* in the title of this post. But… that’s just a little unprofessional, don’t ‘cha think? 😛 ) So when I found them at my local HEB, I about freaked out. No, I did not start bouncing up and down in the grocery store aisles. But major self control was involved in saving that shred of dignity.
So! Without further ado! Here’s what we got!
- Volumizing Shampoo
- Amla & Holy Basil Conditioner
- Hydrating Face Wash
- Nourishing Face Moisturizing Lotion
In short, the verdict is: YUM! The shampoo is cleansing and gentle, the conditioner is smooth and nourishing, the face wash leaves behind baby soft skin that feels squeaky clean yet moisturized and the lotion soaks in fast, is not oily and is super hydrating.
In order of favorites…
1. Volumizing Shampoo
Love this stuff! I can’t really tell if my hair has more volume, but it feels sooooo clean after washing and my sensitive scalp is not irritated by it in the slightest. It kinda surprised me when I first squeezed it out though, because since there is clay in it, the shampoo is green! It also has a clean, herby smell to it that is very strong. Not at all an unpleasant scent! Just, strong. It lasts on my hair for a long time, but it makes it smell as “green and eco friendly” as I am. lol
2. Face Wash
My first thought as I gently soothed this gel over my face was, “like cucumbers”. Instantaneously cool and refreshing. A moment of rubbing caused the at first very thick gel to lather softly and easily spread over my face. After rinsing it off, my skin was smooth and well balanced, clean feeling and practically glowing. As for it’s “hydrating” claims, I didn’t even need the lotion after I was finished. It never dries my skin out, nor does it leave it oily.
The only downside to this wash is how much effort it took to rinse off. I splashed and splashed and splashed, but it still took forever. Under the shower head works best, or with a wash cloth. If you miss some, you will most certainly know it, thanks to the gummy patch that will dry on your skin.
Still, despite the odd little quirk, I really like this face wash. The way it seems to caress my skin, the way it cleans and never dries, the way it is so refreshing, have completely won me over.
3. Face Lotion
The lotion is surprisingly liquidy, but it soaks into my skin very quickly. It has a strong cinnimony, clovey smell, but unlike the shampoo the scent fades quickly. It does it’s job very well. I seldom have to use it after using the hydrating face wash, but when I do need it, it is gentle, but thorough.
Actually, I never use hair conditioner. My scalp produces a prodigious amount of oil and no matter what kind of shampoo I use, nor how many times I use it, my hair never dries out. Only the one time I swam in a pool that was horribly over-chlorinated and burned my skin did I actually need conditioner. And then I needed it badly.
Apparently, in that case, this conditioner would not have done the job. It’s very light, and my sister who does have trouble with dry hair says that it does not really hydrate well enough for her. Perhaps I could use it and not have trouble with it? But then, I don’t need conditioner, so why bother?
This was the only product we tried that we haven’t loved. It appears that other people have had similar experiences. A shame, really… With as sensitive as we are to gluten, knowing that this conditioner is tested gluten free is very reassuring. Ah well… I suppose we’ll have to keep looking for a good gluten free conditioner…
All in all, I would definitely recommend Organique by Himalaya Herbal. I’m anxious to get my hands on the toothpaste and will let y’all know how I liked it when I do.
Until next time, do check out Himalaya Herbal and let me know what you think!
