I am a big fan of mineral makeup. I love knowing that I’m putting natural stuff on my body, free of chemicals and petroleum based ingredients. It works wonderfully well, had a “naked” look to it and it just feels good to smooth against my skin.
So naturally (very lame pun intended 😛 ), I went hunting for info on gluten in mineral makeup products. To make a long story short, I grabbed myself a tube of bare Mineral’s “Flawless Definition” mascara when I was under the impression that it was gluten free. It wasn’t until later that I discovered that what I had heard was “gluten free” was actually just “doesn’t contain gluten in the ingredients”. Turns out, I should have checked their website instead of just buying it on hearsay.
This is on the bare Minerals FAQ:
While the list below shows the Wheat, Oat, Rye and Barely free products please keep in mind that these products may be made in an environment that handles Wheat, Oat, Rye and Barley derivatives.
I’m very grateful for the frankness with which bare Minerals handles the gluten problem. This is a wonderful company with high quality products, but it’s just not safe for those with gluten sensitivities.
